Well, as I don’t know every single editor individually, it’s very easy to judge someone based on their behaviour online, if they reply to comments, if they don’t, how they reply, what kinds of things they write in their description. It’s only natural - everyone is constantly and subconsciously making judgements about other people, especially those they are unfamiliar with.
This judgement however is always highly inaccurate - the margin for error is too great. There’s too much missing information. I don’t really give these judgements any grounding in my life for how I see the community.
So, I guess the question would be better phrased as ‘Are there any edits that you really really don’t like?’ which of course, naturally there are styles of editing that I’ve grown tired of seeing, or just simply never liked much.
The commonly used “fancy, complicated” AE editing is a little lacklustre to me, simply because there is too much going on and it can detract from the meaning of the edit. Now having said that, there are some simply stunning AE editors out there who are able to either A) incorporate the style well or B) have developed their own style within the program which is swoon-worthy.
It also irritates me when people, commonly for SNK, pick songs that don’t relate at all to their footage, or portray a misread meaning of either the lyrics or the content. Also that a high percentage of SnK edits are simply rips off of mine… in theme or style… this is a little discouraging to see that people can’t think of their own ideas X’D But these are more of general pet peeves though, spawning simply because I’d like to see some creative and intelligent edits that make me think harder about their creativity, their understanding, or simply just leave me clicking replay.
And of course, just how I don’t like some edits, the same extends to me, and I understand people may not like my editing, in style, content, or perhaps just even me as a person. That’s up to them though to make that decision and I do not blame them for it :)
